Happy Christmas!

We get our Christmas holidays today! We would like to wish our families and our friends a very happy Christmas, and a happy and healthy New Year. See you all in 2016!

Carols for St Vincent de Paul

On Monday, the senior classes went to the post office to sing Christmas carols, to collect money for charity. 3rd and 4th classes sang from 11.15 to 12.30. It was hard work! Lots of our parents came to see us, and we loved having the support. 5th and 6th classes sang after us. In total, we raised just over 1000 euro for St Vincent de Paul!!!! Thank you to everyone who put money into our buckets, it will help give needy people a better Christmas.

A Tale of Two Storeys

On Thursday last we went to the Town Hall to see the play "A Tale of Two Storeys". It was the story of the people who lived in a block of flats. Four actors played all the parts. It was fabulous and we really enjoyed it.
We love the theatre!

Arts and Science Project: Workshop 2

Today Heather Brett and Marilyn Gaffney came in to us again, to continue our workshops. We examined our nature walk worksheets, and came up with some clever descriptions based on what we had seen. Next we did more leaf rubbings, this time on tin foil, and drew leaf outlines with the shapes of insects and creatures inside.

Arts and Science Project- Cavan County Council

4th class have been chosen to participate in an Arts and Science Project, in conjunction with University College Dublin and Cavan County Council. Only five schools were chosen from County Cavan, so we had to enter a competition in October, and we won! As part of this project, we will be working with scientists from UCD later in the year, at Cavan Burren Park. Firstly we will be taking part in workshops with Cavan artists, who will come to our school to do art and poetry workshops.

The first workshop took place on November 16th. Heather Brett, poet, and Marilyn Gaffney, visual artist, came to our classroom. They introduced the project to 4th class. Marilyn worked with us on plant, bark and rock rubbings in crayon and paint. Heather did a poetry workshop based on the weather this morning, where we all worked together on a poem. They will be coming back to us in two weeks. We can't wait!

Science Week

A Mobile Cinema came to St Clare's for Science Week. Our class were lucky enough to be able to go. A scientist gave a presentation about Making and Designing. He talked about rockets, transport, cavemen and houses. He was great. Then we watched a Wallace and Gromit movie called The Wrong Trousers, about an inventor and his dog. We had a great time at the mobile cinema.

We go to swimming lessons every Friday in Cavan Leisure Complex. It is great fun, because we are split into groups, we have our lesson, and at the end we have playtime in the pool. It is very important to be able to swim. It is very good exercise, and it is fun!!
